Slow November

November looked to be a slow month with both of them busy with school. It also didn't help that Max and I both got cold and stayed inside for 2-3 days during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Max took a picture with his football uniform. It is unfortunate that this turned out to be a mediocre expeirence because Max hardly played. I thought a team sports like this can really benefit him.

Here is anothe picture of Renee playing piano.

During Thanskgiving break, Renee and Max went out to the driveway and played the leaves.

Max joined a "power of Kungfu" event with master from China National Team.

Football and Piano

This month is a bit slower than usual but we do have Max in action with the football team!
First of all, we finally got the official picture of the Northern Tier Crew!

Max joined the performance with his Kungfu School in one of the community event. He has been busy with football practices and games, and has not been able to do a lot of practices.

While it has been really cool to see Max in football gear and get active in a team-based sports. It has not been a good experience. The coaches are so focused on gaining points in the game with other schools, they let players like Max stand on the sideline the ENTIRE time and half of the practice time.I finally sent a message to the coach through the team parent (that is how the coach wants the communication to go), the coach let Max played a couple of times, each for a few minutes. The coach never talked to us. Instead, he walked up to Max asking "Why did you think your parent sent me that message?" The irony is that the team kept its losing streak. Needless to say, neither parent nor Max wants to do it next year.

Renee attended another piano recital.

Ear Rings!

The biggest news of the month is that Max got an ear ring! And it actually looks good!

Max went with his gang of four to the six flag for a birthday celebration. These four hang out all the time these days even though they are not in the same class. Apparently they have a fixed meeting spot where they find each other in school.

Renee joined Song Team and started performing during the school football games.

Here is Max getting his first ear ring, and Renee getting a second one. They went to a special shot in Walnut Creek.

I went with Max to a short backpacking trip in Point Reyes.

I also drove Max and his scouting friends to the Advancement Camp where they spent the day learnig different scouting skills and knowledge

High School Started

The new school year finally started. This year, Max and Renee are both attending high school, marking our final chapter of full family under the same roof. With the adjustment and probably because we did a lot of activities last month, we don't really have much pictures to share.
After some try-outs, Max decided to join the high school football team. Renee happened to have a jacket from when she did the pick-up-with-a-purpose event in last school term. Also, Renée is now part of the high school Song Team, who performs when Varsity Football and Basketball teams are playing.

Max took the black belt test and upgraded to second degree! He still has not learned ariel and his back still hurts a bit. So we are taking it easy.

For the band, Max is trying Baritone Saxophone this year.

Great Month for Scouting!

This July turned out to be a great month for Scouting! Renee staffed at Wente Summer Camp for five weeks. Max and I went to Northern Tier high adventure, followed by him staying a week at Royane Summer Camp for a week.
Max joined me on Saturday to help the continuation of the archery shed project in Camp Herms.

Renee started her first year as paid staff in Wente Camp, teaching scouts archery.

This is the first night during our six-day-five-night canoe trip in Boundary Water area at Minnesota.

The portaging was not easy at the beginning but we eventually got used to it. The trip allowed us to visit this secluded waterfall that you can only reach with canoe and portaging.

At the end of the trip, the scouts in the crew signed the paddle of the intepreter and took a picture. They really love him.

Without missing a beat, Max joined Troop 805 in their summer camp.

In addition to spend time at the summer camp, Renee also attended a dance competion in SoCal. She also went to Taylor Swift concert but since I was only doing the drop off and pick up, I didn't take any pictures.

Summer Time

Summer is here again! That means school graduation and summer activities
Max has graduated from Gale Ranch Middle School (GRMS) and is going to Dougherty Valley High School (DVHS). We attended his graduation ceremony as a family.

Renee had a sweet 16 celebration at home. She actually celebrated early because she needs to staff at Wente on the archery range.

Renee finally attended NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) in Scouts BSA. It has been recommended for a while and the timing just didn't work out until this year.

This is Renee's graduation from the NYLT.

We pet-sit for Renee's friend from time to time.

Preparing for the high school summer

We are finishing school and ready for an action packed summer!
The Nothertier crew from Max' troop finally got our first Canoe training event! We borrowed the canoes from Troop 834, and as added bonus, their Scoutmaster came and gave us the training that we need.

Max attended his last Jazz band rehersal in the middle school. He got to stand up in the front in the finale with his cool sunglasses.

Renee had the same band teacher when she was in middle school. After the concern, she went up and they took an awesome group picture.

Renee took some pictures in the backyard with the blooming flowers.

We go out for a stroll as the family from time to time.

Sometimes they go to this park nearby and have a go at this balancing game, which has become more of their favorite.

So many places to be, so little time

Unlike last month, we took TONS of pictures with our activities.

We took a trip to New York City. I actually have at least another picture of them on this exact spot. I just couldn't find it.

Renee and Max both have their own phone now. As you can see, they are glued just like others. We have set screen time but someone it hardly works on these iPhones.

Since the top of Statue of Liberty is limited these days, we didn't bother to go to the island. We took a ferry that passes it by. We actually got to the one that you have to pay by mistake. But it turns out to be great because there are so few people on the boat we were able to take a lot of pictures.

We visited Wall Street. This bull statue, however, seems to have been moved to a different place.

We visited the Brooklyn Bridge from the Manhattan side. Max always enjoys being the tallest person in the family these days.

And of course, we visited the Time Square in the evening and enjoyed the view.

We also went to Dumbo and walked between the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Grand Central station really is worthy of its fame. Now we can recognize it in the movies.

The purpose of this trip is for Renee to perform at the Carnegie Hall as one of the winners of a competition last year. The place is really good, of course.

We found the poster outside with the schedule. After we took this picture, many families realized it and formed a line to take pictures in turns.

Max continues his Saxophone with the Jazz band. I didn't think too much about his performance until he performed during Renee's Eagle Court of Honor. He played the national anthem as part of the flag ceremony, and it was actually pretty good.

And the time we have all waiting for, Renee's Eagle Court of Honor! She planned it together with her friend Sara from Troop 126. The ceremony was really good from my perspective. The best part was two ASMs from the boy troop talking about their experience on the two-night-three-day backpacking trip from Sunol to Del Valle. Renee and Sara led that trip and really impressed those two ASMs.

Dance, Kungfun in Parade, Band Trip to Disney

The month of March was actually full of events.  RenĂ©e attended dance competition at Fair Ground in Pleasanton.  Max joined him Kungfu team to the St. Patricks' day parade in Dublin.  Max also went on a school trip to Disney Land in LA with his band.

However, with the family taking turn quarantine for COVID and my one weekend of out volunteering at Scouts BSA, I was not able to get much pictures.

I was there for this event and the dancing was really cool.

This is one of the event from Max' troop on a volunteering event "Kids against Hunger".

Renee has quite a few dancing posing pictures. They all look neat.

Renee has not joined many outings with her troop due to busy school schedule. But she remains active in the troop on Tuesdays. It is a good compromise so that she can continue be a good role model as an Eagle Scout for the others in the troop.

This is Max getting off the bus from the Disney trip. I am afraid there will be more and more moments where I am not there capturing his life.
