Scouting and Destination Imagination

The last two months have been mostly Scouting initiated activities and preparation for the Destination Imagination.
Max' Den was asked to do the flag ceremony. Max got to hold the flag during the closing session.

We went on a sunset hike in one evening. It was super cold, especially when we were waiting for the sunset. But thinking back, it was such an awesome experience.

This year I got to go with Max on the Foodbank visit, where we help out by packaging the food.

After months of preparation, Max team, Red Bananas, went on the stage for the regional competition. They had a great time even though they came short for the state competition.

Renee's team, Crystal Cats, won the first prize! Their hours and hours of hard work really paid off on this one.

Max and his Den built a school bus during the Pack meeting and joined the race.

This is another cool Den Meeting, where the scouts learn about responsibilty and skill needed for using a knife. The meeting ended with them carving ship out of the soap.

With all the rains this year, we decided to go on a hike to visit waterfalls in a mountain nearby. We got to take a family photo, which does not happen often these days.

The hike is not that easy but both kids were good sports and enjoyed the view.

Post Holiday Season

January turned out to be slow in activities, probably because of the post-holiday effect.
We went out for a quick hike and enjoyed the great view in our area.

Max finally got his award from the popcorn sales!

We also went to the San Francisco zoo during a weekend. The kids turned out to be free for that day.

Max finished his class in performance and did a show. We are still encouragingi him to do more in public speaking, something he can use some help. Interesting enough, Max is actually pretty social. He can get along with any kids and play.

Our Cub Scouts Den went to visit the policy as part of the adventure.

Holiday season with big boys and girls event

Besides the typical snow trip, we also had events showing signs of growing up.
Max joined the Destination Imagination (DI) event too! I am only able to help out as an assistant but we got cool T-shirts!

Renee went to a week-long outdoor education camp. While I was just glad to have her on her own for a period of time, the school ran out of volunteers. So I tagged along. We were supposed to supervise other kids but I got to see her every day.

After a long long time, Max finally was qualified for the belt test. He passed and reached brown belt.

Max got more interested in the annual Pinewood Derby race at the Cub Scouts. He picked a really fancy design. We worked on and off with borrowed tools. In the end, his car won the second prize out of th 17 cars in his rank.

This year we rented out a house right next to the Heavenly ski resort, with view to the lake and the resort.

Renee and her two girlfriends went on the slope everywhere.

Our group took rests whenever we felt tired.

I took Max and his cousin to the Exploratorium on one of the weekend.
