Limited Outing

This is the second month of shelter-in-place.  Everyone is safe and sound in the family, which is the status quo that we are keeping as the highest priority.

Max finished his big pirate ship project that was the gift from his cousin.  It is always fun to watch him constructing objects.  It reminds me of my childhood whenever I got my hands on one of these games.

Max and I went out on a raining day for the change.  We both enjoyed walking in the rain, although probably for different reason.

Even though Max will always think about how to get more time on iPad or Laptop, Max actually enjoys reading.  This is one day we noticed that he picked up the Public Health Merit Badge book to read.

We continued our little hiking around the neighborhood.  Everyone stays away from each other.  We wash our hands thoroughly as soon as we get home.

I noticed that this trail has grass growing all over it so I took Renee and Max here to show them.  A few days later, the grass was cut.

Shelter-in-place Month One

This month we have taken unusual number of pictures due to the Corona Virus pandemic.  All events have been canceled.  As we are adjusting to the unprecedented lifestyle, we tried to get some outdoor time in a safe setting.

I "ventured" out of the house and looked for trails that are not well known.  Sometimes I took shortcut to avoid the foot traffic.  This is the three-mile route that I plotted and took Max with me.

A few days I took both Max and Renee on the same route.

Renee and Max often say they don't want to go out.  But whenever they do come out with me, they would greatly enjoy their time.

Both in DI and Scouts BSA

This year Max joined a Destination Imagination (DI) team as well.  This month, Max also joined Troop 805, a Boy Troop in Danville known for its great community.  I was going to say great program but my experience with Renee's Troop 126 and Max' Pack 996 tells me it is all about the community around the unit.

This is Max' DI group, Kinetics Kids.  They have a great coach.  This year, they won the competition in second place, and can go to the state competition.  It is very exciting!

I joined Max on the school field trip at the Black Hawk Museum.  It has a thought provoking display about how history is told from the perspective of Native Americans and Western Settlers.

This month, Renee went with Troop 126 on the Pioneering Camping event.  Besides practicing the normal cooking, camping, hiking skills, the scouts got to learn about pioneering tricks.

Renee joined Max at his Pack 996 bridging ceremony, where Max is welcomed to Troop 805.  Renee also welcomed a few girls from Pack 996 to Troop 126.

It has been over four years since Max started his Cub Scouts program.  Looking back, it is amazing how much he has grown.

With the weather still warm, Renee went with Troop 126 on a urban hike, where we hiked over Golden Gate Bridge.
