Graduation, growing up, summer camp

June is our typical month of finishing school and enjoying summer

With remote learning still going on, Renee and Max took a picture together celebrating with their classmates virtually on the end of another school year.

Renee continues her Philmont backpacking training. We went to the shower lake and hiked on the snow-covered ridge.

Max has grown a lot in his kungfu forms. He got a red belt this year.

I took Renee and Max to Lake Del Velle for an overnight camping. We booked two nights so that we won't be in a rush. Max got to practice his cooking skills needed for his advancement. We got attacked by the mosquitos and it took several weeks to recover

Renee and Max went on the sumer camp. Even though they are in two different troops, we were able to get them go on the same week and both troops chose Wente as the location. We carpooled with two other families.

This is Max' first time at summer camp.

This is Renee's second time and she has been making friends with scouts joined in the last two years.

Opening Up, slowly

May was another month of more things opening up slowly and carefully.  We are grateful that our community is treating this situation seriously.

Renee went on the first troop camping trip since the shelter-in-place order. They did a trash pickup project on the beach.
Renee continues with her Philmont training. This is their second visit to the mission peak as the crew, third visit as the troop scout.
I am not as involved with the troop anymore and I used this opportunity to let go so that Renee can be on her own.  She has been handing her scouting experience really well so I thought it is time for her to lead on her own and learn from there.
I took Max to the flag planting event organized by his troop.  Wearing this jacket, there are quite a few pictures in which he was mistaken for me.
Max also attend his first camping with the troop and be on his own for two nights.  This is with his two buddies in the patrol: Ben and Bobby.
Renee continues enjoying her piano lessons.  She went to a piano competition.
This is another picture of Renee with her fellow scouts during the camping trip.

Sibling Outing Month

We spent April doing more outings in the area.  Parents got the vaccine during the month so we are playing it safe waiting to become fully protected.

Renee went on with her Philmont crew again.  This time, we did 10-mile hike from Sunol to the mission peak.  Max actually hiked on the same day also to the mission peak.  The only difference is that they did it from the other side, which is steeper and shorter.
I took Renee and Max to walk on the bay bridge path.  It was quite beautiful but a lot more noisy than I expected.  It is weird that Golden Gate bridge did not feel this noisy.
We also went to a local regional park and walked around.  Max and Renee enjoy each other's company very much these days.
We visited FiLoLi garden.  Each time the kids are much older than last time.  Each time, we enjoy the place in different way.
We finally got around to put mulch in the backyard.  Renee and Max helped a lot in the process.
